It was a unique and challenging experience for me to spend 5 days in the Amazon rainforest, living with the locals and experiencing a different lifestyle. It was an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that forced me to step outside of my comfort zone.
In order to grow as a person, I did things that challenged me and forced me to uncover new sides of myself that were quite important to me.
A person's comfort zone is a state of mind, a psychological condition in which they feel safe and in control of their surroundings. In this state, the person is usually consistently performing and has minimal stress levels. In other words, when you're in your comfort zone, you're in the "automatic pilot" zone, which may appear convenient at first but eventually leads to emptiness.
Being a coach, someone who helps people improve, means that you have to keep working on yourself too. One of my favorite methods to grow, is to step outside of my comfort zone, which I strongly encourage everyone to do.
Do you still have doubts about stepping out of your comfort zone? Here are five compelling reasons to do so.
1. To gain self-confidence
Pushing yourself out of your comfort zone will allow you to put yourself to the test, identify what talents you need to develop, and gain confidence. This great sense of progress and self-assurance can assist you in developing more optimistic thinking and lowering stress and anxiety levels.
2. To continue your personal development
It is an unavoidable fact that when you are younger, you are more likely to take risks. Why not as you're growing up? Because you're more likely to focus on failure than on taking risks. When you dwell on failure to the point where you stop taking risks, it becomes one of the most significant roadblocks to personal growth.
3. To become self-assured
You may feel frightened while pushing your limitations, but as much as you do it as part of your own growth, you will notice that you grow and feel stronger than ever before. It will become your best attribute towards self-assurance as soon as you start looking at uncertainty with a positive attitude.
4. To boost your creativity
You will immediately begin to see the world around you from a different perspective once you stop looking exclusively at your safe spot and familiar environment and begin looking at new things, new experiences. Developing an "open to experience" mindset will assist you in changing your mindset allowing your brain to generate a new perspective about the world around you.
5. To gain new experiences
Allowing oneself more freedom to face problems and change, allows your mind to be more open to possibilities. Once you feel that your comfort zone is no longer serving you, you will begin pursuing new hobbies, new experiences, and meeting new people.
When you're feeling uneasy, the comfort zone may seem like the greatest place to be, but if you want to take control of your life, live it to the fullest, and unleash your potential, it's time to leave it behind, seek out challenges and progress.
